Traditional Folding Wooden Clothes Horse
You may not think you need a clothes horse, but you do - especially if you live somewhere with no garden.
It might seem like a revival of something your grandmother had, but this folding clothes horse with leather hinges is no twee revival product. It will up your drying space and looks a great deal more chic than tangling with a plastic concertina rack.
Something useful that is beautifully done.
The woodworkers at Camphill Village Trust specialise in thoughtful simplicity. They are a national charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. They also support several of their service users “to discover the unique skills and talents everyone has” and then to start creating, making and learning.
The items produced are utilitarian, but have that pleasing ‘just right’ look. The homeware equivalent of the perfect white t-shirt.
Materials: reclaimed or native softwood; leather hinges, made of vegetable tanned cow hide
The clothes horse is 8.5cm deep when folded, and 62cm wide, by 98cm tall.
The bottom strut is 15cm from the ground.
Camphill Devon
On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, near Buckfastly, you can find Camphill Devon.
The charity has been going for more than 40 years, supporting adults with learning differences and additional needs to lead fulfilling independent lives. They have supported accommodation for their residents and offer a range of meaningful and therapeutic activities to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge. They make our Traditional Wooden Clothes Horse, one of our bestselling products.
The people they support are assisted by a professional team of activity leaders in their wood and metal workshops, weavery, pottery, and gardens. Recently, they have opened up Neuro Cafe - a social enterprise to provide employment and training to adults who are not able to make it to their main site.
